NCAG Names interior Minister, Tunji-Ojo Best Performing Minister of 2024

The Nigeria Citizen Action Group, NCAG, a coalition of over 112 civil society organizations, has named the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as Best Performing Minister of the Year 2024, vanguardngr.com reported.

NCAG explained in a statement on Friday that its recognition of Hon. Tunji-Ojo in such capacity followed an independent assessment of public service performance and accountability, it conducted to evaluate the impact of government officials on national development.

“Under his leadership, the Ministry of Interior has undergone remarkable transformation, recording unprecedented achievements in its core mandates, including overhaul of Nigeria’s Passport System, introduction of online visa processing, prison reform, seamless and transparent recruitment exercises and revenue generation from generation from marriage registry, “the organisation said.

The statement was signed by NCAG chairman, Hon. Salahudeen Lukman who doubles as acting Executive Director, Societal Safety Network, SSN and Hon. Mohammed Mohammed, Secretary NCAG and National Coordinator, Northern Youth for Defence of Democracy, respectively.

In the statement, the organisation said the overhaul of the nation’s passport system by the minister has led to faster processing thus eliminating bottlenecks, and enhancing service delivery just as it it noted that the introduction of online visa processing has revolutionized the visa application process and improved ease of travel as well as business transactions.

It hailed the minister for reforming the nation’s prisons, enhancing correctional facilities and implementing policies that promote rehabilitation and decongestion.

While also thanking him for the seamless and transparent recruitment exercises under his leadership,NCAG said “the Nigeria Fire Service and other paramilitary agencies under the ministry have conducted credible and merit-based recruitment processes, restoring public trust.”

On revenue generation from Marriage Registry, the group said,”The ministry has successfully generated billions of naira through its improved and digitised marriage registry services, contributing significantly to national revenue.”

“The NCAG, under the leadership of Ag. Executive Director of Societal Safety Network (SSN), Comr. Salahudeen Lukman, and Hon. Mohammed Mohammed of Northern Youth for Defense of Democracy as Secretary, remains committed to promoting excellence, accountability, and citizen-driven governance.

“Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s outstanding performance exemplifies the spirit of effective public service and leadership, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. His innovations have not only improved service delivery but also strengthened national security and economic development.

“We urge all public officials to emulate his dedication and commitment to national progress, ” the statement read.
