Olubadan Estate Unveils New Project, 500kVA Transformer As Residents Laud Akin Alabi’s Pro-people Leadership

Residents of Olubadan Estate in Egbeda Local Government Area, Oyo State, celebrated a significant milestone with the commissioning of a newly constructed gatehouse and the installation of a 500 kVA electricity transformer. The transformer was generously donated by Hon. Akin Alabi, the federal lawmaker representing the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the estate’s entrance, attracted a large gathering of residents, community leaders, youth representatives, and political stakeholders. The event marked the formal handover of the much-anticipated infrastructure projects, symbolising a new chapter in the estate’s development.

In his welcome address, General W.A. Yusuf (Rtd), Chairman of the Olubadan Estate Central Association, expressed profound gratitude:

“It is with great joy and gratitude to God Almighty that I warmly welcome you all to this momentous occasion, the commissioning of our newly reconstructed gatehouse and the newly installed 500kVA electricity transformer.”

He highlighted that the gatehouse project, initially proposed at the inception of his chairmanship, commenced in March 2025. The project, costing over ₦10 million, was fully funded by the estate’s residents, reflecting their unity and commitment to progress.

General Yusuf lauded Hon. Akin Alabi for his altruistic contribution, stating:

“We cannot thank Hon. Akin Alabi enough. If all other politicians could emulate the good intentions and giving-back approach of this gentleman, our society would be a better place. E se pupo, Sir.”

Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola, the state assembly lawmaker representing Egbeda, also commended Hon. Alabi’s thoughtful intervention. He donated ₦500,000 to the residents and urged them to take ownership of the facilities by ensuring their proper maintenance and protection.

Representing Hon. Akin Alabi at the event, Bashorun Ogundele Biliaminu emphasised the importance of development over party affiliations. He reiterated Hon. Alabi’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits in Egbeda and Ona Ara, noting that the transformer project is one of many initiatives aimed at enhancing constituents’ living standards.

The Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, represented by Mogaji Koleosho Abiodun Ruben, praised the residents for their outstanding development efforts and made financial donations to support ongoing projects.

Residents and members of the Estate Development Association expressed their gratitude, describing the initiatives as timely and impactful. The new transformer is expected to significantly improve the power supply to the estate, which has long struggled with erratic electricity due to overburdened transformers.

Oloye Akin Alabi’s recent efforts to improve infrastructure in his constituency include the distribution of transformers to various communities, such as Anuoluwapo in Kumapayi Zone A, Adeleye village, Ogbadaa community, Kure, Bioku Araba, Olunloyo and several other communities which had suffered from prolonged power outages. These developments are part of his broader plan to address infrastructural challenges in Egbeda/Ona Ara and ensure that residents receive essential services.

Other dignitaries present at the event were Mrs Foluke Banjo, Hon. Demola Ige, S.A. to the governor, the DPO, Egbeda Police Division, and a representative of Alhaji De-Damak, the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba, Edo, and Delta States.
