Former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, attended the Dr. Kayode Fayemi Commemorative Symposium and the launch of the Amandla Policy and Leadership Institute in Abuja. The event, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, celebrated Dr. Fayemi’s legacy of visionary leadership, policy innovation, and transformative governance.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, delivered a keynote address, emphasising the need for African leaders to adopt a more proactive approach to policy implementation. He urged leaders to move away from relying on foreign blueprints and instead develop homegrown solutions to address the continent’s challenges.
The Amandla Institute, launched at the event, aims to provide a platform for policy innovation and leadership development. Former South African President Thabo Mbeki expressed optimism that the institute would play a crucial role in positioning Africa to participate actively in the global arena.

The symposium also featured the unveiling of Dr. Fayemi’s new book, “If This Giant Must Rise.” The event brought together prominent leaders and stakeholders to discuss the future of Africa and the role of visionary leadership in shaping the continent’s destiny.

Among the dignitaries present were former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Chief Bisi Akande, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Defence, and former Ekiti Governors Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Chief Segun Oni, and former national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odiye Oyegun, were also in attendance.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamidi Sanusi, led other notable traditional rulers to the event.
