PHOTOS: ‘Former Council Vice Chairmen G-68’ Elects New Leaders, Pays Solidarity Visit to Oyo APC Chairman

In a bid to revitalise their movement, the forum of former council vice chairmen during the administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, under the aegis of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGVCON), has on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, converged at the former Oyo ALGON Office, Ring Road Area in Ibadan. The ‘Oyo ALGVCON’ ex-rayed previous activities of the association, dissolved the house, renamed their group, and elected new executives.

Members of the Oyo ALGVCON, which is now known as Oyo ‘Former Vice Chairmen G-68,’ unanimously elected the immediate past vice chairman of the association, Hon. (Chief) Ademola Olawale ‘AGBADEMO’ (Ogbomoso Central LCDA) as chairman, Hon. Jacob Akintola ‘JP (Ibarapa East) as secretary, Hon. (Dr.) Abigael Gbolasire (IWA LCDA) as treasurer and Hon. Monsuru Adeyemo ‘Socrates’ (Aare Latosa LCDA) as publicity secretary, and others as executive members.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Ademola (AGBADEMO) appreciated the ‘G-68’ for the confidence reposed in him and vowed to be a servant leader.

Oyo ‘Former Vice Chairmen G-68’ paid homage to late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and described the late helmsman as a worthy benefactor. They observed one minute silence for the departed former vice chairmen and all progressive leaders who have passed away.

After their maiden meeting at the former Oyo ALGON Office, the ‘Oyo Former Vice Chairmen G-68’ subsequently paid solidarity visit to Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas at Oyo APC State Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

In his remarks, Chief Olawale (AGBADEMO) lauded Alhaji Olayide Abas as a charismatic leader of all times. “Your Eminence, Sir. We’re on a solidarity visit to commend you as a visionary leader and charismatic captain of all times. You’re tested and trusted. We have confidence in you, and we’re convinced that you will paddle the canoe of Oyo APC to a victorious destination come 2027.

“We’re on a tripartite agenda. First, to declare our unalloyed support for your visionary leadership as Oyo APC chairman. Second, we also use this medium to reaffirm our unalloyed loyalty and support for President Bola Tinubu-led administration, and by His Grace, the renewed Hope Agenda will surely reposition Nigeria. Third, we’re your foot soldiers, and we’re very much available, under your watch, to run the party’s errand geared towards reclaiming Oyo State from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and make it progressive come 2023. Sir, as we all know, our 2027 starts with the forthcoming bye-election of Ibadan North Federal Constituency, and we count on you as an unbiased helmsman to record a landslide victory in the polls.

In his remarks, Alhaji Olayide emphasised unity as the only criterion Oyo APC needs to overcome its challenges and become victorious.

“On behalf of myself and Oyo APC executives, I welcome you all to our permanent party secretariat. Thank you for your solidarity support for Oyo APC, your loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and your zeal and determination to reclaim Oyo State from PDP grip.

“My key agenda and message here today is unity. Let’s be united, and with the unity of purpose, we’ll surely reclaim Oyo State from PDP. The people united can never be defeated,” said the core Awoist and Bola Ige-trained politician, Alhaji Abas, and he encouraged political engagement at the grassroots level.

Earlier, Oyo APC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olawale Sadare, on the leverage of the state party chairman, enjoined oneness and harmony among the members of the former Oyo ALGON family—chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors.

On the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Sadare maintained that Oyo APC remains an unbiased umpire and assured party faithful of fairness and transparency on the matter. He further hinted that Oyo APC will not recognise any of its members as a group but as a dedicated member of the party.

In his own remarks, Oyo APC Secretary Prince Tajudeen Olanite stated that the party counts on the former vice chairmen and other party faithful as grassroots politicians needed to reclaim the state from the ruling party.

Oyo APC Treasurer, Alhaji Olalekan Buhari, lauded the former vice chairmen and described them as parts of the key pillars of the party at the grassroots level. He canvassed for harmony and unity of purpose.
