Don’t Drag Children to Political Rallies: a Lawyer and Political Activist Warns PDP.
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Saki West, Barrister Abdul Waheed Olatunde Lawal and member of the Legal Affairs Committee of the APC/PCC, in Oyo State, has threatened to institute legal action against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Gov Seyi Makinde for gross abuse of Children Rights in the State Capital, in Ibadan.
In a media chatt with our correspondents, Barr. Lawal stated that as,”A Political Activist and someone who is passionate about Children’s Rights felt highly embarrassed and concerned about the future of the children who were forced to be chanting PDP Campaign in a recently released video clip.
When he was asked if he was making the statement because he is the Deputy Director of the Legal matters in the State Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Lawal said he has the right to challenge the illegality as a bona-fide indigine of Oyo State and also as a legal practitioner since the exhibition of the children in that video amounts to a violation of the Electoral Act 2022.
He further observed that it was uncivilised, undemocratic and highly provocative for the PDP card carrying teacher to advertise and Campaign for PDP and Gov Seyi Makinde in a public school for that matter.
Bar. Lawal, while addressing supporters of APC in Saki stated that,”It was the height of desperation by the PDP government in Oyo State to hold on to power when it dragged under age Children to be chanting ‘PDP ni e dibo fun’, meaning they are going to vote for PDP.
As a matter of fact, the female teacher was instigating and inciting the school pupils against their parents.
“I’m using this medium to appeal to all critical stakeholders in Oyo State to Save our Children from abuse by desperate PDP government in the state. While a state such as Lagos has been assigning a day in a year for children to govern the state and other states boasting of provision of scholarship, free education, spending more money to make sure that students can learn while at home by providing radios, TVs and internet learning, our own pacesetter is recruiting students who are below voting age to Campaign”.
According to Barr. Lawal , the PDP governor must be sacked for the APC Governor who will prioritise education and agriculture to come on board come May 29, 2023. We want to see provision of mobile libraries in Oyo State.
“The children are our present and future and we must ensure they are carefully handled rather than being used for Campaign as it is being done by PDP agent masquerading as teacher in a public school.
“I submit that it is criminal and a violation of Children’s Rights to use them for Campaign. Oyo State Governor Makinde must fish out for diligent prosecution, the said school head and teachers who appeared in the short video where children were chanting ‘Daddy! Mummy should vote for PDP’ failing which I shall have no other option but to initiate the necessary legal process to compel the prosecution of pdp in a court of law.” He concluded.
