In a heartfelt message marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lucky Emonefe, expressed deep admiration for the gallantry of fallen heroes who played pivotal roles in fostering Nigeria’s unity.
Observed annually on January 15th, this day not only commemorates the end of the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War but also serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars as well.
The NANS President highlighted the significance of reflecting on the armed forces’ contributions to national peace.
Emonefe called on all Nigerians to use the occasion to ponder over their actions and collectively reinforce the country’s unity, emphasising that national cohesion is a shared responsibility.
“I join my voice with eminent Nigerians in celebrating the gallantry of our fallen heroes in keeping Nigeria as one,” said Comrade Emonefe.
Emonefe urged citizens to perceive this day as an opportunity to embrace lasting peace and unity, addressing the prevailing insecurity and violence in various parts of the country.
Emphasising the importance of unity in diversity, the NANS president urged Nigerians to reject division and hatred, working collectively towards a nation where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
“On this Armed Forces Remembrance Day, let us not only remember the fallen heroes but also appreciate the sacrifices of our current servicemen and women,” Emonefe remarked, acknowledging the ongoing efforts of those who safeguard the nation’s security.
Emonefe concluded his message with a prayer for the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation, invoking blessings for a better Nigeria where peace, unity, and prosperity prevail.
