OYO APC’S KISSES OF DEATH BY AKEEM ADEBIYI
Oyo State APC is on the verge of failure once again. This time around, it is a systemic regression to near perdition. The so-called collegiate system of leadership which was foisted on the party is not helping matters. Ranging from lack of unity or strong cohesion among all the tendencies within the party to gross acts of indiscipline and impunity among the members therein, the success may elude the party again in 2027.
Treachery is as old as human history. It is a known fact that there are enemies within the fold. And this has cascaded into the public glare. The APC apologists are bewildered regarding the silence and docility of the party managers in the faces of gross acts of indiscipline and barefaced anti-party activities being exhibited by some committed and non-committed members of the party.
In the recent past, Chief Ismaila Fijabi and Barr. Niyi Akintola sang praises of Gov. Seyi Makinde and openly declared their support for his anointed successor in the 2027 polls. They claimed boldly that they are chieftains of the APC. The dalliances of the duo with GSM amount to anti-party activities. Moreover, some notable figures within our great party have been attending nocturnal meetings of the El-Rufai-Atiku political coalition.
All these atrocities are to the knowledge of the party managers, but they feigned ignorance of these malevolent acts which are capable of causing serious harm to the party’s march towards success at the 2027 inter-party elections. This is quite strange to the well-known culture and tradition of the true progressives in Nigeria’s body polity. The party managers at all levels of APC in Oyo State are neither competent nor sufficiently bold and courageous to right the wrongs in the system.
The complacency of the party leaders may have dire consequences on the loyalty of the members. They may have the conviction that hobnobbing with members of the opposition party is not a sin. However, wielding big sticks against the recalcitrant members of the party shall not only serve as deterrents to others but also strengthen the unity and spirit of discipline within the organisation.
Beyond the clarion call for the efficient party administration and strict adherence to the maintenance of discipline, Oyo APC should commence in earnest preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Conscious and determined efforts should be put in place to identify and unite the diverse tendencies within the party. All-encompassing committees should be constituted to build a framework for the electoral victory of APC in 2027.
The disloyal members and those caught in the web of anti-party activities should be expelled from the house without further delay.
