A Call for Transparency: Ibadan North Bye-Election As a Litmus Test for 2027 — A Word of Advice to APC Oyo State Leadership | Dr Adesokan Samuel Adelodun

As a loyal and progressive-minded member of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibarapa East come 2027, I feel compelled to offer this humble but timely advice to the leadership of our party in Oyo State.

The forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election is more than just a contest to fill a vacant seat. It is a clear opportunity—a litmus test—for our party to demonstrate its readiness for the future, particularly in how we handle internal democracy and the selection of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

I strongly urge our party leaders at the state and local levels to use this moment to build trust, strengthen unity, and rekindle the hopes of the grassroots by ensuring that the primary election is conducted in a free, fair, credible, and transparent manner.

The era of imposition and backdoor consensus arrangements must give way to open competition and merit-based emergence. Every qualified aspirant must be given a level playing field. Let the process be one that inspires confidence in party members and energises our base, not one that breeds discontent or disillusionment.

What we do now in Ibadan North will send a strong signal across the entire state and beyond. If handled well, it will reassure party faithfuls that their aspirations and loyalty will not be wasted. If mishandled, however, it could cost us goodwill, unity, and electoral strength going into 2027.

Let this bye-election be a turning point—an opportunity to reset our internal processes and restore hope to every loyal party member. A transparent process now will secure a more united and formidable APC in the near future.

I appeal to our respected leaders to seize this moment in history. Let us show that APC in Oyo State is ready to lead by example—by giving all members a genuine chance and fostering a democratic environment where the will of the people prevails.

Let transparency guide us. Let unity sustain us. Let fairness lead us forward.
