In a heartening announcement, Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubaka and Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, have once again reassured Nigerians of significant strides towards the swift return of the abducted students and others from Federal University Gusau. Their unwavering confidence in joint security task forces working relentlessly around the clock fuels optimism for the safe release of the students.

Minister Badaru’s condemnation of the heinous act was accompanied by a resolute pledge from the Federal Government, assuring that every conceivable effort is being made to ensure their safe return. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the anguished parents, the entire academic community, and the people of Zamfara State, who have been deeply affected by this tragic abduction.

Responding to the statement attributed to the Zamfara State Governor, claiming negotiations with Zamfara terrorists for the students’ release, Minister Badaru categorically debunked the allegations. He emphasized that the Federal Government is diligently working around the clock to reunite the girls and others with their families. He deemed the allegations as false and misleading, clarifying that no entity or group has been authorized to negotiate on behalf of the Federal Government.

A glimmer of hope emerged as the President’s directive to secure the victims bore fruit, with 13 of the abducted students and three others regaining their freedom on the fateful day of September 25, 2023. The credit for this remarkable achievement goes to the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Military, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the nation’s security.

Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, echoed the collective condemnation of the attack and issued a fervent call to the dedicated security forces. His call resonates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s comprehensive eight-point agenda for bolstering national security, promising peace and prosperity. The mission remains clear: securing the safe return of the abducted students, a beacon of hope amid trying times.
