A Reenactment of Cap Removal !! By Morufu Smith .

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief James Ajibola Ige was the first prominent politician who had his cap removed by some thugs on the order of one of his political opponents at an event in Ile-Ife. Though the act was the height of insult on an elder statesman and a serving minister, the removal of the cap was seen as harmless as people thought it was meant to reduce Chief Bola Ige to a powerless mortal. However, what seemed like an harmless act to embarrass Ige turned out to a countdown to his eventual death. The police are still unable to unravel the perpetrators of assassination of the late minister despite that the event of cap removal at Ife was a substantiated pointer to where the assassination could have come from.

Then, yesterday, at the PDP mega rally in Ondo for Eyitayo Jegede’s candidacy for the post of governor, there was a reenactment of cap removal episode as ‘Irunmole’ Ayo Fayose got the disgrace of his life when a daring thug believed to be loyal to the faction with whom Fayose was locked in leadership battle of the PDP in the South West removed Fayose’s face cap!

It may not be wrong to say that Fayose was served the fuller dose of the impunity he unleased on some prominent Ekiti indigenes when he was the governor. Ayo Fayose wielded power as if he was going to take gubernatorial power to his grave. Irunmole has been demystified. Fayose should have known that he was going to meet his Waterloo when as self professed ‘Irunmole’, he was eating jollof ‘upandan’. Didn’t he know that forest demons (irunmole) don’t eat jollof; a human food?

In Fayose’s current travails, what should be more worrisome is that the aftermath of his cap that was removed may be unpleasant. After all, there has been a precedent. Fayose should watch it. We won’t chase a bad adult for a lion to devour! Fayose will have his good day now (baba buruku na lojo tie).
