African Revolutionary, Cdr Abiodun Aremu Bags “Award Of Cuban Friendship”.
A renowned freedomfighter in Africa, and Secretary General, Joint Action Front(JAF), Cadre Abiodun Aremu has bagged “Award Of Cuban Friendship”.
This is revealed in a release posted on his verified social media handle and obtained by this Newspaper, Africano Trumpeters.
The release reads,”Words From The Heart As Spoken Following The Presentation Of The Award of Cuban Friendship At About 17.00 Hrs On October 20th At In The Premises Of The Cuban Embassy in Abuja-Nigeria! This is a touching moment of my life to receive an award of the Cuban People and the Cuban Revolution! When six months ago, Ambassador Clara Pulido mentioned to me the the Award of the FRIENDSHIP MEDAL I couldn’t even respond to her! and that made her and she queried: “comrade, what happened? And went further: “where and when would I want to receive the award? I kept mute and didn’t revert to her since! Then few ago (Sunday, October 16), the Ambassador called to remind me of the Cuban Embassy’s invitation to Cienfuegos the Cuban National Day of Culture and enquired once again – “comrade, you have not said anything on when you want to receive your award? And I pleaded that she should allow me a few moment to reflect and few minutes later, I reverted to her that I would be in Abuja on October 20 to honour the Embassy’s invitation and can receive the Award then. And also, that I would be back to Abuja, a week after to honour the memory of Camilo Cienfuegos on October 28.
I dedicate this MEDAL to the memories of Camillo Cienfuegos and Ernesto Che Guevara, being the month of their painful departure from Mother Earth! At this special moment, I remember several touching moments of exemplary sacrifices in which my faith in the destiny of Humanity is renewed – sacrifices of Abel Santamaria, Haydee Santamaria – to whom I named my first daughter Haydee, and several Cuban youth whose heroic sacrifices explained the reality of CUBA today in the defence of Humanity across the world!
This is not a personal award. It is an award to the African Movement of Solidarity with Cuba for doing our duty to the Cuban revolution and the Cuban people!
Also, receiving the award today, is particularly so touching for me, on a day that is the Cuban Day of Culture, a Day that is equally the 50th Anniversary in which Amilcar Djassi Cabral received the Honorary Doctoral award – October 20, 1972. And today in Nigeria, the message of Cabral came to the fore in Nigeria at event of the Society for International Relations Awareness (SIRA) – being coordinated by Owei Lakemfa – where my long standing comrade from our days in students’ movement the 1980s – Ahmed Aminu Yusuf – recalled Cabral that: – “the people are not fighting for ideas in anyone’s head but for their concrete material realities …”
AND as we stand here in front of the symbol of JOSE MARTI, reminds one of his inspiration to the Cuban revolution – “In the world, there must be a certain degree of honour just as there must be a certain amount of light. When there are women and men without honour, there are always others who bear in themselves the dignity of many women and men”….. I thank the Cuban Embassy for this, the Cuban Ambassador, the Cuban President and the Cuban People for considering us worthy of this highest honour! Amandla Aweithu!!
