APC Chairmanship Race: Who’ll Carry The Day? !! Afeez Bello.
As the All Progressives Congress(APC) National Convention is drawing nearer, which according to some prominent party faithful, will be held next month at the Eagle Square, Abuja, if the party Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee(CECPC) does not change the date and the venue.
Several tendencies in the party such as the Action Congress Nigeria(ACN), and Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) have been jostling for the position of the APC National Chairmanship since the inception of the last party Ward Congresses. There were indications from some quarters that other tendency in the party such as All Progressive Grand Alliance has also joined the race.
The tune of the party has clearly shown that the party National Chairman will emerge from Northern part of the country while its Presidential Candidate for 2023 general election will emerge from Southern part, as well.
It was also gathered that the party leaders are planning to choose a corruption free candidate, through consensus, who can unite the party members and treat the loopholes in the Party.
Former Governors who have shown keen interest in the position of the party Chairmanship are: Abdulaziz Yari; Umar Tanko Al-Makura; Ali Modu Sheriff; George Akume; Danjuma Goje; Isa Yuguda. Other party bigwigs who are keen to emerge as the Party National Chairman in the forthcoming APC National Convention are: Sunny Sylvester Monidafe; Mohammed Estu; Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi; Mallam Saliu Mustapha (Turaki Ilorin); and Senator Sani Mohammed Musa.
