APC’s A Proponent of Youth Employment | Morufu Smith.

When the APC Government led by Abiola Ajimobi assumed office in 2011 in Oyo State, one of the first actions he undertook was the employment of 20,000 YES-O Cadets under Youth Employment Scheme. Under the scheme, about 20,000 youths were recruited and trained to work in the emergency services, waste management, environmental sanitation, traffic management and some aspects of educational services. Many of the cadets were absorbed to different ministries and parastatals as permanent employees of the state.

Later, the same APC Government employed 5300 teachers to fill the gaps of inadequate teachers in the teaching service. In the history of Oyo State, no government has given attention to youth employment like APC led government. Under the current government of Seyi Makinde, youth unemployment reaches its crescendo as there has been no provision to employ youths to undertake some essential or emergency services.

Oyo youths will smile again as Senator Teslim Folarin of the APC will repeat the feat of employing multitudes of youths if elected as the next governor of Oyo State.
