ARCN ACT: Buhari Assents Skimeh’s Advertising Regulatory Bill.

President Muhammad Buhari has assented Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCN) ACT 2022.

ARCN ACT 2022 is a bill sponsored By the Member, House of Representatives(MHR), from Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon.(Prince) Akeem Adeyemi, popularly known as “Skimeh”.

In his words, Prince Adeyemi stated that,”His Excellency, the President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), recently assented to eight bills passed by the National Assembly.

“This new Act, sponsored by me, repeals the Advertising Practitioners (Registration etc) Act, Cap. A7, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and enacts the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act, 2022 (a Council for advertising, advertisements and marketing communications as the apex regulatory authority for the Nigerian advertising industry), makes provision for the regulation and control of advertisements, ensures the protection of the public and consumers, promotes local content and entrenches the best international practices.

“The fundamental intent of this new Act is to separate the ‘REGULATORY AGENCY FROM the PRACTITIONERS IN THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY’.

“I wish to appreciate President Buhari, Rt. Hon. Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. Dokun Odebunmi BUNVIC, members of his Committee, the entire membership of the House of Representatives and the Senate for giving an accelerated concurrence to public hearing on the Bill and the eventual assent by the Executive Arm of the Government, under the impressive leadership of the President.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is yet a major garland in the annals of our legislative responsibility to the people of Oyo Federal Constituency and Nigeria in general. This achievement remains laudable and unprecedented in the history of our Constituency, as no member of the House of Representatives from Oyo has ever sponsored and seen to the assent of a bill to become an act. This milestone accomplishment would not have been possible without your moral, spiritual and political support and motivation.

“Other motions and bills, which I have sponsored, will definitely be given vigorous pursuits for the swift realisation of their lofty essence. May God bless you all. Oyo o ni baje.

Hon Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi,
