The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has, Wednesday, bagged a merit award for his fatherly role to the staff of the ministry. This, Ogbeni Aregbesola, said is a show of love to him and other Ministry’s top functionaries.
Aregbesola said he was particularly excited by the recognition and honour, particularly the one done for Deputy Director Joint Service Department, Mrs. Nkem Ezeodom, stating that Mrs. Ezeodom was less than two years in the Ministry, but imagine the impact she had made in the ministry, which earned her Head of Service award last year.
He expressed his appreciation to the Union for the honour, adding that this is a rare phenomenon for a Minister to be so recognized and given an award. He assured the Union that the award would be kept in his museum for a long time.
The Minister said the Union Chairman notified him that this might be his last engagement with the staff as Minister of Interior hence he should be part of it.
He, however, added that the Union Chairman did not know whether he had plan for a valedictory engagement with the staff which he assured, insha Allah, would be before his departure as minister. Ogbeni Aregbesola said “it is not over until it is finally over.
The Minister admonished staff of the ministry to be relevant, truthful and dedicated to their duty.
Earlier in the event, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, appreciated the style and leadership qualities of union officials of the Ministry. He promised to do more in the area of staff welfare.
“Minister Sir, you have done enough for the staff, I will like to assure you that your staff have been hard working and productive. This is due to your unwavering commitment to their empowerment” the Permanent Secretary reiterated.
Dr. Belgore stated that all staff have been trained not less than twice and the training on Performance Management System (PMS) which would replace APER for Evaluation and Promotions was also inculcated in all staff of the Ministry.
Present at this year’s joint Union labour week in the Ministry of Interior are all directors and other management staff.
