ASUU Strike: NANS President, “BARAMBU”, Baba Kankia Meet HoR’s Speaker, Gbajabiamila, Intensify Efforts to End Industrial Action.

In order to find final and amicable resolution to the lingering strike action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the newly elected “Visionary” President of the largest student body in Africa – National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), Comrade Usman Umar Barambu, GCNS, has, today led his other executive members and met with the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt.(Hon.) Femi Gbajabiamila, in Abuja.

This is revealed by a release made available to this newspaper by the Secretary General of the association, Comrade Usman Baba Kankia, today, in Abuja.

The release reads,In continuation of stakeholders engagement by the leadership of NANS to bring an end to the ASUU strike impasse, today the NANS Revolutionary President Comr. Usman Umar Barambu Gcns in company of the National Secretary Comr. Usman Baba Kankia meet with the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila ahead of the speaker meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR scheduled later today. The NANS President thanks the speaker for his intervention into the collective quest of resolving the strike and as well retreats the position of Nigerian students and parents which is to see the strike called up without further delay.

“The Rt. Hon. Speaker noted the observations and stand of Nigerian students as regards the strike and promised to engage the President in a way and manner that will guarantee an outcome that will best serve the interest of both the students and their striking lecturers.

“The resolution of the NANS new leadership is to continue the agitation for the reopening of our Nations Universities consistently and without compromise. In furtherance of this objective, we will always strive to see it become a leading topic of discussion across all government engagements and media platforms until the strike issue is resolved and Nigerian students return back to class.

“NANS calls on Nigerian students to remain vigilant and remain hopeful that this strike will be resolved in no distant future. Thank you. Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta.” National Secretary General, NANS, Comr. Usman Baba Kankia submitted.
