Banji A Banji: Chief Obasanjo’s Moribund Project May Breathe Again As President Tinubu Pledges Support for Floating LPG Station.

In 2005, Under NNPC GMD, Funsho Kupolokun, Julius Berger was contracted for the construction of the novel 12 Floating Mega Stations, with the installed capacity of 300,000 litres (each) of petroleum products. Each of these 12 stations costed the federal government between N700m to N950m.

The project was conceptualized to alleviate and eliminate the challenge of access to petroleum products by residents of littoral communities: Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ondo and Rivers.

This beautiful dream came to reality under Obasanjo, through Funsho…. But it is so sad, that these 12 stations are not functioning as dreamt by Obasanjo led Govt.

In September 2019 under the Buhari led Govt, the NNPC Limited CEO, Mallam Mele Kyari said NNPC would work with the Navy to reactivate these non-functional floating stations. Till date, nothing was heard on the full functionality of these 12 NNPC WONDER.

The hope may not be lost on the 12 floating stations revival, as President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, lent his support to the implementation of a $5bn floating Liquefied Natural Gas project. The first FLNG, a decarbonisation project in Nigeria by indigenous company, which is expected to come on stream in Q4 2026.

This facility targets to increase the national economy by producing an annual 1.5 million tonnes of FLNG for export. As well as the 40 percent 40% (300,000 LPG metric tonnes) for the domestic market needs, with direct 7,000 jobs opportunities for citizens.

BETTER NIGERIA IS HERE.
