Black Market Mawlid Nabiyy In Oyo State- Group Carpets Makinde.

An Islamic Organization known as Muslim Enlightenment Network(MEN) has carpeted Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde over what it described as “Back Market Mawlid Nabiyy In Oyo State”.

This is contained in a release issued by the association and made available to the newsmen in Ibadan.

It reads;

BLACK MARKET MAWLID NABIYY IN OYO STATE.

*Mawlid Nabiyy or Mawlid al-Nabawi is the celebration of the birth of the holy Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him).

The date of birth of the holy prophet (Pbuh) was fixed at the 12th day of the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal—570 C. E.

There is no specific instructions to celebrate the day but majority of Muslims set aside that date for the commemoration of the Birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, (Pbuh).

The legality or illegality of the commemoration is not what we are concerned with, but the timing.

For example, the Federal Govt of Nigeria declared October 29, 2020 as a public holiday for Mawlid celebration, which coincided with 12th of the Rabiu Al Awwal 1442. The said date was also observed as a public holiday in Oyo State. On the said date, the Governor of Oyo State , Engr. Seyi Makinde neither celebrated it nor sponsored the Muslim Community or League of Imāms to organise any event to commemorate the day as his predecessor of the blessed memory did.*

In what appears to the discerning minds that this program is afterall an afterthought, the fire brigade approach of organising the Mawlid itself is suspicious and might have been influenced by the need to pacify or buy over the Muslims, particularly their leaders who have complained of marginalisation by the Governor.

Unfortunately, in an attempt to cover a wrong, another wrong is being committed and that’s it always be if there is no sincerity of intention on the part of the owner of the program.

  • One thing is very clear, the period of Mawlid is gone. The program we are anticipating now is Ramadan and Hajj. The next Mawlid Nabiyy will be around 18th, 19th or 20th October, 2021. Which means if that of 24th February was held, Oyo State would be celebrating two Mawlid Nabiyy in year 2021.*

Alternatively, that of October would have to be postponed to February 2022 again. What’s the sense in that except mockery of the Mawlid Nabiyy itself.

For the purpose of clarity, let us attempt to answer the following questions, which every conscious and right thinking Muslims will ask:

👉 This 24th February 2021 Mawlid, is it the commemoration of the birth day of the prophet in arrears or in advance?

👉 Will Gov Makinde also declare another public holiday on 24th February, 2021?

👉 Will Oyo State celebrate another Mawlid Nabiyy in October 2021 or postpone it to February 2022?

👉 Can’t we skip Mawlid Nabiyy celebration in February 2021 and merge it with another one in October 2021?
👉 Is the insecurity situations in Ibarapa, Okeogun and Sasa, Ibadan with the attendant loss of lives and properties not enough reason to justify the postponement of the belated Mawlid Nabiyy?

👉 Take a look at the Invitation Card and see the fathers and mothers of the day. There is no chief imam of Ibadanland, or any chief imam from Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Okeogun there.
👉 What is the status of Alhaja Mutiat Ladoja in the Muslim community of Oyo State? What is her title in the committee of Islamic title holders in Oyo State? What’s her contributions to Muslim Organizations besides political camaraderie with the Governor?

Where is the deputy Governor of Oyo State, the No.1, Muslim in Makinde Government? What role is assigned to him or he is at best an observer in a program meant for the Constituency of which he represents? If he conspicuously absent at the event, will the Muslim leaders and stakeholders not enquire about his whereabout?

👉 Where is the name of the Deputy Governor’s wife, a devout Muslim woman of substance who is well known with in the University of Ibadan Muslim community and several other Muslim women fora?

👉 Agreed without conceeding that the Muslim community Executives have been perceived although erroneously as opponents of the Governor, how would a government of Oyo state organise a supposed islamic program for the Muslims in Oyo state and then exclude the Muslim community of Oyo State as a body?

👉 Whoever is advising the Governor to continue to do things this way is certainly an enemy of the Governor.

From all intents and purposes, this Mawlid of Gov Makinde is an afterthought, distractive, divisive and a political ploy to get another endorsement of the unsuspecting and unsuspicious Muslims through the backdoor.

It would have been better to use another means to covet the support of the Muslims he does not respect or given prominence in his government*

Finally, this Mawlid Nabiyy as it is being organized is nothing but a black market Mawlid. It is a scam, Husspuppi and derisively contemptuous and anti-islam
