The book titled “Dimensions of Energy Poverty and Rural Electrification in Nigeria” was written by Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, published by Trade Codes Limited and it has 219 pages. The book provides an overview of the dimensions of energy poverty and rural electrification in Nigeria. It highlights the daunting challenges of energy poverty and the potentials of rural electrification in reducing the proclivity of inadequate connections of several rural communities in Nigeria to the national grid.

Reading through the ten chapters book, the author showcases the policy framework and the institutional environment in which energy policies in Nigeria are implemented. This research based text further x-rays the impact of rural rural electrification on energy poverty in Nigeria.

The ideas and information contained in the book are both analytically and empirically-based. Approaching the rural electrification challenge from several perspectives,Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde offers an insightful and various dimensions of the energy poverty as well as the various policy and institutional efforts at fostering rural electrification in Nigeria.

In his analysis, the author identifies the need to transit from traditional energy sources to renewable energy technologies that are easily accessible and affordable.

One unique feature of the book is that the author doesn’t only identified the problems and needs, he carefully come up with a number of workable strategies and recommendations that would optimally address the energy poverty problem in Nigeria.

The book is further enriched by pre- and- post independence energy situation with careful analysis and profiling the policy and institutional arrangements in the country. In presenting his facts, figures and analysis, the language of presentation is lucid, clear and devoid of ambiguity.

Given the aesthetic appeal of the book cover design, quality of the paper used for the production, appendices and inclusion of references as appropriate, I have no doubt that the book will attract huge readership.

If the book is viewed against the backdrop of criteria such as exploitabity, social relevance, readerbility and appropriateness of choice of diction, I can say that the book passes the various tests.

Again, the author has proved that he is truly an authority in Energy Law, Economics and Environment with the presentation of this seminal contribution to the subject of energy poverty in Nigeria.

I therefore strongly recommend this book to the academic community, policy stakeholders, public intellectuals, students and general public. I am sure researchers, administrators and policy makers will find the book worthy and as a valuable resource material in designing and developing blueprints towards addressing the perennial problem of energy poverty and challenges of rural electrification in the country.
