Building, serving and growing are three important, never ending, productive and demanding criteria of life.

Building and serving demand a collective effort; they are complementing. This is because it takes two to tangle. We build while we serve.

Employees, parents, children, leaders at all levels and colleagues serve collectively to build and uphold. It is not easy to build. The results of building do not become visible over night, that is why we will keep serving in all capacities to build the results that we desire across all spheres.

Sadly, the part that we leave out which is supposed to be our return ticket and life line in all struggles is growing. Majority forget to grow while they serve to build. We cannot stop growing, if we really want to live. Being in existence is a general phenomenon but the true living is in the self growth and development. If the system does not make provisions for growth, improvise. The human capital is the driving force of the other capital types but it is demeaning to know that it degenerates while it builds, thereby leaving behind nothing to show forth as a gain of the years of service.

Every parastatal is supposed to make development a core value for service. The so called provision for the period of leave is not tangible enough to support growth. Some still serve while on such leave periods. Seminars, book reviews, workshops, staff presentations should be incorporated and carried out at intervals to grow the interests and dreams of the human capital, so that they do not get lost in service.

Service years are the most active, productive and demanding periods of one’s life. Little or no agility remains after retirements. At retirement, we will realise that we have only built empires for others with no roof over our own heads. Most motivational speakers will encourage people to still begin life at retirement but it is more honourable to reap rather than begin sowing at 50. Even now, never lose yourself, your dream, your worth; you are much more. Grow and follow the process of growth.
