Burial Service: Details of How Barr Omodewu Goes Home

Afeez Bello,
Otu, Oyo State

It was an event of honour as the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Hon. Isaac Omodewu Burial Service programme, held Friday, September 13 at First Baptist Church, Otu town, Otu, Oyo State.

The event was witnessed by various dignitaries across the country who were friends and allies of the former Commissioner for Land in Oyo State.

While delivering his sermon, Rev. Dr. John Oyelade acknowledged the presence of all the religious leaders in attendance. He sympathised with Omodewu’s family, the Otu community, and the entire Oke-Ogun Zones. He described the former chairman as a beacon of light that the people of Oke-Ogun are beacon upon that he will become the Governor of Oyo State in the near future.

The preacher sympathised with senators, House of Representatives members, all the political gladiators, the Oyo State APC, which lost its glorious chairman, and the church that lost its man of peace. In his sermon titled ‘When Death Occurs’, “he relayed about Lazzaru’s death and those that didn’t believe that Jesus was leaving until a few days to the event, and they started to become saddened. Their hearts became heavy, and he told them to believe in God. Omodewu has lived a fulfilled life; we are the ones to work harder. Death reminds us about death.

“Omodewu’s death is reminding everyone that death is inevitable. Death can occur anytime. It always warns us. Death reminds us that life is too short. Please, let’s take life easy. The story of how people died shows that life is too short. Every human being is powerless on the day of death. We are helpless on the day of death. It also reminds people of the hope of resurrection and eternal lives. Omodewu did not die; he changed his address, he noted.

Rev. John Oyelade continued,”It reminds us of opportunities for repentance. A few years ago, a man of 88 years was begging for a week more when he was on the verge of death at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. It reminds us of ‘hereafter’. Before the demise of Alexander the Great, he told one of his soldiers that his physicians should carry his remains to the grave, put gold on the paths that people will take to the grave, and asked them to let his hands show. The warrior asked why. He said doctors can’t save him; wealth is not important,” he responded.

In his appreciation note, the younger brother of the deceased, Mr. Kolapo Omodewu, appreciated Oyo State APC, the entire Otu, Oke-Ogun, and well-wishers for their ultimate support and wished them well in their journey of lives. Immediately after the burial service, the late chairman was buried at his residence in Otu town.
