By-election: APC Ibadan North 2024 Candidates Call for Disciplinary Action Against ‘Anti-Party Elements’

Afeez Bello,
Ibadan, September 19, 2025.
In a critical meeting held at the Country Kitchen in Bodija, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates during the 2024 local council elections in Oyo State have addressed pressing issues following the recent bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
The forum of the candidates expressed solidarity for Hon. Wale Olatunji Murphy, the APC candidate in the bye-election, urging him to accept the electoral outcome with grace. The forum commended dedicated party members for their efforts during the byelection and encouraged them to learn from previous mistakes, promising that their loyalty would be rewarded.

The candidates issued a strong appeal to party leadership at all levels to establish an impartial disciplinary committee to investigate several issues that emerged during the bye-election, which they believe threaten the party’s integrity.

The communiqué reads in parts, “Key Concerns Raised
- Anti-party activities (PDAPC Diplomacy): The forum demanded accountability for any party member involved in “PDAPC diplomacy”—a term they used to describe actions that undermine the party’s interests.
- Aggrieved Aspirants: The forum highlighted the need to address the behaviour of some aspirants who allegedly disrespected party supremacy by accepting substantial funds from the ruling party, the PDP, to sabotage the APC’s efforts.
- Misappropriation of Funds: The forum called for disciplinary measures against ward chairmen who mismanaged election funds, allowing anti-party activities to flourish.
- Receiving Payments from Opposition: They urged the leadership to scrutinise any party stakeholders who received financial incentives from rival parties, particularly the ruling PDP, asserting that such actions create a culture where anti-party behaviour is tolerated.
- Election Boycotts: Aspirants who directed their followers to boycott the by-election should also face consequences, they stated.
Recommendations
The forum proposed that any member engaging in anti-party activities should face severe repercussions, including disqualification from future elections. The forum emphasised the importance of barring any executives found guilty of misconduct from holding positions within the party.
Rationale for Action
The candidates expressed concern that unchecked anti-party elements have allowed the PDP to infiltrate the APC’s structures, negatively impacting loyal members. The forum lamented that some party stakeholders, motivated by financial gain, have demoralised committed party members and threatened the party’s future.
The forum warned that failing to address these issues could lead to significant challenges in the upcoming 2027 general elections, urging immediate investigation and action against the accused members and stakeholders.
Conclusion
The Ibadan North APC Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates Forum concluded their communiqué with a call to action for the national, state, and local leadership to rectify the situation, emphasising that the party must unify to avoid a decline in morale and effectiveness among its members.
