By-election: Hon Wale Olatunji Murphy Promises Pro-People Representation As APC Kicks Off Campaign In Ibadan North

Afeez Bello,
Ibadan, Oyo State.

The highly anticipated campaign for the Ibadan North Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) kicked off on Monday, August 4, at Labiran Junction, Ward 1, before proceeding to Ode-Oolo Market in Ward 2.

Party leaders, stakeholders, executives, and members turned out in large numbers across the 12 wards of the Federal Constituency to rally support for the APC candidate, Hon. Wale Olatunji Murphy, ahead of the August 16 bye-election. The atmosphere was electric as Murphy danced with enthusiasm, inspired by the party’s praise-singers, including Alhaji Akeem Adebiyi, Secretary of the Apex Leaders, who joined in the celebration.

In his address, Alhaji Bello Oladeji Bao, Chairman of the Apex Leaders in Ibadan North, expressed gratitude to God and emphasised the historic significance of the gathering. “We will vote for Murphy, and we will win. He was unjustly sidelined in the Federal Constituency Election over two decades ago, but now is his time. House-to-house campaigns are already underway. Vote for APC; do not support a dying party like the PDP,” he urged.

Alhaji BAO formally introduced Murphy as the APC candidate and flagbearer for the upcoming election.

Hon. Lasun Adebunmi emphasised the importance of this election as a precursor to 2027, declaring, “By God’s grace, we will achieve a landslide victory on August 16. We are committed to mobilising support for our candidate.”

Alhaji Adebiyi spoke on behalf of former Council Boss Alhaji Omilabu Gandhi, urging party members to unite behind Murphy as their chosen candidate. “Ward 2 will rally around you; we have consistently delivered for the progressive party in previous elections.”

Gratefully addressing the crowd, Hon. Wale Olatunji Murphy thanked the party leaders and members for their overwhelming support. “All candidates in APC are qualified for this position. I am thankful to God and my colleagues.”

Murphy also paid tribute to the late Prince Musiliu Olaide Akinremi Jagaban, acknowledging his loss as a significant blow to both the APC in Oyo State and to Ward 2 of Ibadan in particular. “We must not lose twice; a party that has lost a great legislator like Hon. Akinremi Jagaban cannot afford to lose the federal seat to the opposition. With your support, we will emerge victorious,” he declared.

The event drew notable attendees, including Alhaji Omilabu Gandhi, Elder JP Oladokun, Oloye Gafar Ojetola, Hon. Obe, Comrade Waheed, Hon. Wosilatu Alabi Animashaun, Hon. (Dr) Adam Adebayo (Ibadan Northwest), Comrade Femi Awogboro, and APC Ibadan North 2024 Councillorship Candidates, among others.
