Call for Unity and Strategic Rebuilding Within Oyo All Progressives Congress (APC) | By Toheeb Arogundade

Dear APC Leaders,

It is imperative that we prioritize fostering peace within our party. As the saying goes, a dandy wardrobe may be as lavish as a brocade seller’s workshop, but it can never match the time-tested resilience of the clothes worn by the oldies. In essence, we require wisdom to unite the party, a wisdom that must be instilled and championed by the leaders of our great political entity.

The decline of APC in Oyo State, which commenced in 2019, resulted from mismanagement of the state party structure and a flawed reward system. This unfortunate trend persisted in 2023, and without corrective measures, it risks repeating itself. Let us not forget that despite being in power at the federal level from 2019 to 2023, Oyo State remained under the control of the PDP.

To address this challenge, we must introspectively trace the origins of the party’s collapse and earnestly rectify the areas where the ship began to falter. Perhaps, there is a curse on the party, predicting a recurring cycle of crises without resolution. We must extend our olive branch to party stalwarts who feel aggrieved and bring them back into the fold.

Engaging with those who lost in the 2023 election due to defections is crucial. Reconciliation won’t be easy, but genuine reconsolidation is achievable. To our dear APC returnees, your commitment is valued, and we urge you to pledge your unwavering loyalty to the party. Let’s stand together as one united front, not wavering when faced with challenges, and emerge stronger in 2027.

As a party, we must acknowledge the work ahead, considering that our victory at the national level in 2023 was secured with just 36% of the total votes cast. A significant portion of this percentage has shifted to the opposition due to the hardships faced by the people. We hope for brighter days in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tenure.

In conclusion, let us unite, rebuild, and work tirelessly for the betterment of our party and the nation.

Sincerely,

Toheeb Arogundade,
(Ward 11, Ibadan North, Oyo State).
