Chief Adelabu Attends KOAFEC Ministerial Conference on Energy.
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, is currently attending the Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Conference on Energy in Busan, South Korea. The conference, which is being held from September 12-14, 2023, brings together policymakers, ministers, and representatives from both South Korea and African countries to discuss key challenges and opportunities related to energy development and sustainability.
Adelabu is expected to use the conference to explore partnerships and strategies to enhance Nigeria’s energy security, promote sustainable development, attract investment, and foster knowledge sharing. He will also discuss the country’s clean energy transition goals with South Korean officials.
“The KOAFEC Ministerial Conference on Energy is an important opportunity for Nigeria to engage with South Korea on key energy issues,” said Adelabu. “We are looking forward to exploring partnerships that can help us achieve our energy security, sustainable development, and clean energy transition goals.”
The conference is being held under the theme of “Energy for Sustainable Development in Africa.” The agenda includes discussions on a range of topics, including:
Energy security and diversification
Renewable energy and energy efficiency
Investment in the energy sector
Knowledge sharing and capacity building
Clean energy transition
The conference is expected to produce a set of recommendations that will be used to guide future cooperation between South Korea and African countries in the energy sector.
Key areas where Nigeria can benefit from the conference:
Energy security: Nigeria can benefit from the conference by exploring partnerships with South Korea to diversify its energy sources, reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, and promote renewable energy. This will help to enhance the country’s energy security and reduce its vulnerability to price fluctuations and supply disruptions.
Sustainable development: The conference provides a platform for Nigeria to discuss sustainable energy solutions, such as renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency measures, and clean cooking solutions. These solutions can help the country to achieve its sustainable development goals, such as poverty reduction, improved healthcare, education, and economic growth.
Investment opportunities: The conference also serves as a platform for Nigeria to promote investment opportunities in the energy sector. South Korea, with its expertise in technology and infrastructure development, can be a major source of investment for Nigeria’s energy sector. This can result in increased foreign direct investment, job creation, and technology transfer.
Knowledge sharing and capacity building: The conference facilitates knowledge sharing and capacity building initiatives between South Korea and Nigeria. This will allow Nigeria to benefit from South Korea’s advanced technologies and strategies for energy development. This can help to build local capacity and strengthen institutional frameworks.
Clean energy transition: With the increasing global focus on mitigating climate change, the conference provides a platform for Nigeria to discuss clean energy transition. Nigeria can explore collaborations with South Korea to adopt low-carbon technologies, promote renewable energy deployment, and develop sustainable energy policies. This will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting climate resilience, and achieving the targets of the Paris Agreements.
