Chief of Staff Taoreed Lagbaja Speaks to President Tinubu on Health Status

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, spoke with President Bola Tinubu yesterday, reassuring him about his health status and countering swirling rumours of his death.

According to a report by ThisDay, a source at the Defence Headquarters confirmed that the president was delighted to hear the army chief’s voice and prayed for his swift recovery.

The Nigerian Army has firmly dismissed the circulating death rumours as fake news.

ThisDay also reported that the rumours began after former presidential aide Jackson Ude claimed Lagbaja had died from cancer.

In response, the Army’s Director of Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, clarified that Lagbaja is alive and recovering well after traveling abroad for a routine medical check-up.

Nwachukwu assured that the Nigerian Army continues to function smoothly in Lagbaja’s absence, with his subordinates managing day-to-day affairs.

Additionally, a pro-Tinubu group, Renewed Hope Agenda The Way Forward (RHATWF), urged Nigerians to disregard the false claims, labeling them as malicious and unfounded, ThisDay reported.
