As Nigeria celebrates Children’s Day today, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, has called for the mobilisation of political will and resources to address the challenges facing Nigerian children.

In a statement marking the occasion, the legal luminary, Agbaje, emphasised the need for collective action to ensure the welfare and progress of children, saying, “We must do this as a matter of necessity, not only for the children but for the future of humanity.”

The scion of Agbaje Salami L’Ayeye, Barr. Akeem, also saluted responsible and responsive parents for their unwavering commitment to their children’s affairs, welfare, and progress. “May God always provide for you all,” he prayed.

Agbaje’s call to action resonates with the urgency to address the challenges facing Nigerian children, including access to quality education, healthcare, and protection from child labour, trafficking, and abuse. As the nation celebrates its future leaders, it is crucial to prioritise their well-being and development.

In 1954, the United Nations General Assembly designated a day to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world’s children. Nigeria traditionally celebrates Children’s Day on May 27.
