Democracy Day: Our Days of Apprehension Are Over – Senator Akintunde Greets Nigerians, Lauds President Tinubu

The Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Senator Yunus Akintunde, has expressed renewed confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that Nigeria’s days of economic and political apprehension are giving way to a season of purposeful leadership and sustainable progress.
In a statement commemorating Democracy Day 2025, released through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Kunle Olatunji, Senator Akintunde congratulated President Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, leaders of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, and sub-national governments across Nigeria.
“The quality of leadership managing a system is critical to its progress. ‘What we are witnessing under President Tinubu is a trajectory of national transformation anchored on sincerity of purpose, strategic insight, and courageous governance,’ Senator Akintunde said.

Akintunde acknowledged the initial public anxiety that greeted the administration’s reform policies, describing them as “tough but necessary decisions”, now beginning to yield tangible results across key sectors of the economy.

“There was understandable apprehension during the early months of this administration. However, the boldness and wisdom with which the president has tackled Nigeria’s challenges are now evident in the improving indices of our economy and governance structure.”
Senator Akintunde affirmed that the current government’s Renewed Hope Agenda reflects the aspirations of millions of Nigerians who have long yearned for stability, inclusiveness, and sustained development.
Reflecting on the significance of June 12, the senator paid tribute to late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (M.K.O.), describing him as the symbol of Nigeria’s democratic rebirth.
“June 12 is more than a date—it is a reminder of the price paid for the freedom we enjoy today. The Hope ’93 agenda initiated by the late M.K.O. Abiola has now found broader expression in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. That vision is finally coming alive.”
Akintunde also used the occasion to mark the second anniversary of the 10th National Assembly, offering gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and reaffirming his personal commitment to quality legislation and people-centred representation.
“As lawmakers, we are deeply aware of our duty to shape the future of this country through policies, oversight, and representation. I remain resolute in ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of Oyo Central and beyond.”
Senator Akintunde acknowledged the resilience and patience of Nigerians, particularly in enduring the early pains of economic reforms.
“Nation-building is never easy. But with the collective determination of our people and the vision of our leaders, Nigeria will rise again. The foundations for sustainable progress are now being laid.
Speaking further on his new responsibilities as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South West Development Commission, Sen. Akintunde expressed hope that regional development commissions will offer fresh avenues for inclusive growth and more efficient resource management.
“I have pledged to always do more. In this new capacity, I am confident that the regional development commissions will introduce a new chapter in the history of national development—complementing existing efforts and driving grassroots prosperity.
While concluding, Senator Akintunde extended his warm wishes to all Nigerians on this special occasion:
“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leaders across all levels of government, and every citizen of our great nation as we celebrate another milestone in our democratic journey. May the future bring peace, progress, and renewed hope for all.
Signed:
