Dr Adebayo Adams Pens Glowing Tribute, Mourns Late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi.
“`Death…Thou shalt also die!
Baami Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi 3rd. I received the news of your demise as hard pill to swallow and this is a personal loss to me. It is no longer a news that your death typifies a great loss.
You were intelligent, cheerful, pragmatic and intellectual. You were a mobile library, custodian of old and contemporary history. Your reign was known for prosperity, peace and stability of Yoruba nation.
Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi The Great came to impact the world with his God’s given knowledge. He was a very upright and selfless human being.
Kabiesi! You have left your footprints on the sand of time and history. This is the end of an era that is worthy of celebration. You led a fulfilled life and your life was full of inspiration to all the youth who followed you closely while your legacies remain evergreen, not only because you were the longest serving Alaafin but also for what you were able to achieve, in terms of the finest records that you set and broken.
Our legendary monarch, Adieu! As you’d commenced the journey to meet your forebears and I know Ibironke will be glad to welcome you in Aljanat Fridaus, by His Grace.
Kabiesi! You were a breed of no equal. You were a teacher par excellence and a warrior of inestimable exploits, a golden king with vast knowledge, which was very rich in history.
We’ve lost more than an icon and we may not know it yet. One day, in the next couple of years – Your timeless words will again resonate in the ears of all and we will be amazed because they are true.
You were a traditional lantern that shown so bright; illuminating our tradition to other parts of the world, by projecting and teaching our rich history of tradition, culture, ethics, values and norms, and that’s why we all regarded you as our custodian of tradition.
Undoubtedly we’re now worse off without this great emblem because there is only one Atanda Lamidi Adeyemi Alowolodu per generation but his legacy lives, forever!
Sleep well Baami! May you walk the streets of gold and fly in those wings you climactically talked about.
Thanks for all the adjuration and unalloyed truths. And like John Donne returned, “Death be not proud, for thou shalt also die.”
I commiserate with the Traditional council, Oyo mesi, the entire staff of Kabiesi, Awon Olori Oba, The Princes and Princesses. May God Almighty grant Kabiesi Aljanat Fridaus and May He Continue to stay comfortably, in all his present state.
May Almighty Allah be with the entire family over this irreparable loss.
And I will like to use this special moment to call on well-meaning Oyo indigenes, at home and in diasporas, all lovers of the late monarch, the legislative arms of government, academics among others, to please work on a way to immortalize our great monarch, Oba Adeyemi-III because he’s an institution on his own. His life well spent, was full of documentary. Yes he’s more than a monarch. Baami is an encyclopedia of Yoruba heritage. and I hope our professors in departments of history and theatre art, in higher institution of learning, can help to put up something about the life and death of Alaafin Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi The 3rd.
His legacy transcends borders and it will echo through the ages.
‘Rest on Baami Atanda.
Omo Ibironke.
Olayiwola Akobi Adeniran.
Okuta Meji Baba Ekuro.
Igi Jegede.
Oba To Ri Owo Jaye Oba.
Kiniun Oke Akesan.
Sun re Iku Baba Yeye !!!“`.
