Dugbe Inferno: Adelabu Solidarises With Traders , Calls for Disaster Emergency Fund
Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, Parakoyi Olubadan of Ibadan Land and 2019 Gubernatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has sympathised with the traders at Dugbe Alawo market where fire disaster has destroyed goods and properties worth millions.
Oloye Adelabu has also called for immediate set up of an Independent Emergency Fund to support direct victims of unforeseen disasters like fire outbreak, flooding, health pandemics etc, to cushion the grave economic impacts of these ugly incidents on the overall economy of the state.
According to Comrade Femi Awogboro,media aide to Adelabu said that his principal was shocked over the loss of properties and wares at the market and call for supports from well meaning Nigerians and government at all levels to assist the traders.
“At a time like this when the country is facing serious global pandemic that has crippled the economy, no amount will be too big or small to assist the traders to return to their normal businesses “, Adelabu said.
He however reteirated that pedestrian fire brigade approach to combating disasters is not only reactionary but also highly ineffective and not good enough for our state. “We have experienced a couple of fire disasters in the last one year across the state in addition to the current health pandemic. This is more than enough justification to set up an Emergency Relief Fund to be jointly founded by the government, private individuals, NGOs and the corporate organisations. This will reduce pressure on government finance, provides immediate reliefs to the victims and present a formal structure that will pro actively prevent frequent occurrences of such disasters in the future.
He explained that Dugbe Alawo market is well known to him from his childhood days while he could also boast of having hundreds of relations, friends and political followers that trade in the market to make a living , therefore, no matter how little, but surely something must be done to assist the generality of these traders, through Bayo Adelabu Foundation.
Oloye Adelabu also called on government and market leaders to work harmoniously on how to have functioning Mini fire station that will arrest such occurrences in future.
