Easter: Oyo ALGON Urges Christians to Seek Peace, Promote Unity

As Christians all over the world celebrate Easter, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON), Oyo State Chapter, has felicitated with Christian believers in Oyo State and across the world on the occasion of this year Easter celebration. Oyo ALGON maintained that the celebration can only be complete when the people live righteous life, imbibe the spirit of tolerance, peaceful co-existence and sacrifice for one another, which Jesus Christ demonstrated throughout his period on earth.
In a statement signed by the association’s chairman, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, ALGON stated that the celebration of the resurrection of Christ which the season represents, should be a constant reminder for everyone to extend the virtues of selflessness, love, sacrifice and tolerance.
He particularly urged Christians to use the season as a period to reflect on their individual and collective roles towards promoting and sustaining the foundation of love, peace and harmony in the nation.
“We must therefore see this period as a time that presents us the viable opportunity to think about how we can help to steer our nation back on the road to peace, stability and prosperity, by working in the spirit of togetherness because no nation can make any meaningful progress in an atmosphere riddled with pockets of violence and killings,” the Chairman said.
He implored the people, most especially those at the grassroots not to forget to adhere strictly to all the instructions given to them by the government and relevant agencies in curbing the spread of coronavirus, adding “by keeping safe, social distance, washing our hands and using alcohol based sanitizer and keeping a good personal hygiene.
“Let us remain peaceful, show love, tolerate one another and make sacrifice most especially during this period of COVID-19 pandemic. That way, we can uphold and advance the legacy of Jesus Christ in our state and nation at large,” Abass- Aleshinloye added.
