End SARS : Niyi Akintola Frowns At Killings of Protesters….. Appeals to Youth to Calm Down , Refrain from Violence , Criminality .
Legal luminary and Baamofin of Ibadan Land, Barr. Adeniyi Akintola has frown at killings of peaceful protesters who were exercising their fundamental human rights. He appealed to Nigerian Youth to calm down and refrain from any acts of violence and criminality .
” I, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, a community leader and senior legal practitioner condemn unequivocally the wanton killing of hapless, unarmed and peaceful protesters in Lekki, a suburb of Lagos and other places in Nigeria by persons believed to be military operatives on Tuesday October 20,2020″, Akintola stated .
” It is the greatest act of lawlessness that has been displayed yet in the history of protests in this country. Not even in the era of the military has anything so dastardly been done to peaceful protesters. Turning guns bought with tax payers money against tax payers children is to say the least very sick. The government as a matter of urgency should set up a high powered inquisition into the cause of this heinous crime and identify who gave the orders to shoot and on whose instructions so that the culprits are brought to book to deter future occurrence and set a ground rule against impunity which has become the norm in our nation”, Niyi Akintola maintained .
” We live in a global village today where civility and positive engagement as opposed to brute force is the norm. I am using this opportunity to appeal to our youths to calm down and refrain from acts of criminality and refuse to join companies that could make them do things that fly in the face of the law”, The legal luminary, Akintola appealed .
” Peaceful protests are constitutionally protected rights and the “Egbe Amofin Yoruba ” (Yoruba body of legal minds) to which I’m a member will defend you for free in case of harassments provided your protest is peaceful. I am also calling all our people to be wary of the activities of the fifth columnists who are cashing in on the current scenario to destroy Yoruba patrimony and turn our God given space into a killing field”, Barr Niyi Akintola said.
” Our children are culturally trained and educated and we believe they will toe the line of dialogue and explore all avenues of modern communication which they have done until the advent of the “death merchants”. May the Lord accept the souls of the departed youthful heroes who peacefully asked for the banishment of inanity and requested for civilized ways of doing things in Nigeria, their fatherland”, Chief Adeniyi Michael Akintola, SAN stated.
