ENDSARS: Soji Akanbi Condemns Killing of Jimoh Isiaq in Ogbomosho, Harassment of Innocent Civilians by SARS Operatives .

Former federal lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi popularly known as Okanlomo of Ibadan land has condemned the killing of Jimoh Isiaq in Ogbomosho and the harassment of innocent civilians by the operatives of Special Anti- Robbery Squad(SARS) .

” I feel so disheartened by the death of Jimoh Isiaq who was shot dead in Ogbomosho in an #EndSars protest as well as others who were injured. My prayers and heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family”, Akanbi stated .

” Extra-judicial killings, kidnapping, extortion and intimidation of innocent and unarmed civilians is totally unacceptable and I damn the activities of the men perpetrating similar acts nationwide.
Following protests in different parts of the country over continued harassment of innocent civilians by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS), it is highly commendable that the upper and lower chambers rose to follow up the call for the scrapping of this infamous police unit as well as the subsequent disbandment by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and President Muhammadu Buhari reiterating that He is committed to ensuring the police are responsible to the people”, Adesoji Akanbi said.

” However, to assure the citizens that the response of the federal government and the office of the IGP are not just mere inflammatory rhetoric, it is pertinent to ensure an effective implementation of the measures put in place to check the excesses of these men soiling and painting the entire police force black.

” Recall that this disbandment is not the first of its kind. I am urging the Federal Government and the IGP to ensure that this time, it is not toothless and meaningless. Law and order must be further restored nationwide, and I am optimistic that our federal government is ready, willing, and able to harken unto this sonorous ongoing nationwide call”, Akanbi maintained .

” I commend police officers who are selfless and courageous public servants discharging their duties with all sincerity and commitment to service. The least we can do, because they deserve it so much, they have to get our gratitude and we have to give them great respect for what they do. Of a truth, in many cases, law enforcement is underfunded and under supported. Police departments should be incentivized to further encourage them to serve dutifully.

” Though we may all come from different places and different backgrounds, we are united by our desire to ensure peace and unity and equality of all Nigerians.
As we all know, without police there is chaos, without law there is anarchy, and without safety there is catastrophe; but in times like this, what do we make of those who are meant to ensure our safety being the ones now making us feel unsafe? We need police that commit crimes to be punished, we need meaningful, mandatory accountability measures to end misconduct.

” I also believe we must increase transparency, and invest more resources in police training, recruiting mentally stable men and society/community engagement.
I sympathize with families of people who have lost their lives or injured in one way or the other in altercations with the SARS operatives. Your loved ones will not have died in vain and the call to #EndPoliceBrutailty will materialize very positive results”, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi reiterated .
