Enough is Enough, Oyo State Must Not Be Crippled By Endless Loans – APC Youth Leader, Aremu, Warns Makinde

Oyo State is facing mounting anxiety following the recent approval of a N300 billion loan by the state’s House of Assembly. Citizens are voicing their fears regarding the long-term financial implications of such extensive borrowing, emphasising that while development is crucial, perpetual loans without transparent justification could jeopardise the state’s economic future.
Just last week, the Federal Government allocated ₦30 billion to each state as part of an intervention fund. This, combined with federal allocations and internally generated revenue, provides Oyo State with significant resources to implement meaningful projects if managed wisely. Citizens are urging their legislators to act as stewards of public trust rather than endorsing what they deem reckless financial decisions.
In a statement, Prince John Aremu, Youth Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo State, called upon Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde to prioritise the future of the state.

Enough is Enough: Oyo State Must Not Be Crippled By Endless Loans

The recent approval of a ₦300 billion loan by the Oyo State House of Assembly has sparked deep concern among citizens who fear for the financial future of our state. While we recognise the importance of development, continuous borrowing without transparent justification is unsustainable and dangerous.
Only last week, the Federal Government released ₦30 billion to each state as an intervention fund. With this, alongside federal allocations and internally generated revenue, Oyo State has the resources to deliver meaningful projects if managed prudently.
This is not about attacking individuals like Hon. Shittu Ibrahim or any lawmaker; it is about protecting the interests of the people. Our legislators must act as guardians of public trust, not as mere endorsers of reckless debts.
We call on His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde, to ensure that governance today does not mortgage the future of Oyo State. Every loan must come with accountability, a clear repayment plan, and visible benefits to the masses.
Oyo State deserves progress, but not at the cost of drowning in endless debt. Enough is enough.
Signed:
Prince John Aremu,
Youth Leader,
All Progressive Congress (APC),
Oyo State.
Oyo State.
