Ex-Councillors Forum 2018 Unites Ahead of 2027 Elections

Members of the Ex-Councillors Forum 2018, elected during the tenure of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, gathered yesterday in Iseyin to chart a unified course for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The forum emphasised the importance of solidarity, calling on all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the citizens of Oyo State to seize the opportunity of the ongoing voter registration process. They urged everyone to register and revalidate their voter cards as necessary.

The meeting commenced with an opening prayer led by Hon. Lawal Kafayat from Ibadan North East. Hon. Habeeb Amunbikan then invited Hon. Sulaimon Alimi, popularly known as “Olorun Ero”, to provide insights into the recent by-election in their federal constituency, Ibadan North Local Government. Olorun Ero succinctly attributed the party’s defeat to issues of leadership crises and logistical challenges, emphasising the need for the forum to focus on party unity rather than individual aspirations.

Hon. Raheem Musa elaborated on the party’s selection processes, while Hon. Saheed Odejinmi stressed the importance of selecting candidates who are both acceptable and marketable to the electorate.

As discussions progressed on the Ibadan North by-election and voter registration, representatives from each zone reported encouraging developments within their areas. Hon. Jumoke Fakayode announced support from Dr Yunus Akintunde, the serving senator for Oyo Central, who provided resources to support the senatorial district:”We were given each S.A. in each local government, which comprises 11 local government areas.” The forum collectively prayed for the senator and encouraged other senators to follow his example.

Forum members, including Hon. Najeemdeen Alaje, Hon. Olamide Lawanson, Hon. Dare Motunolase, Hon. Jacob Fadeyi, Hon. Folasade Adebisi, and Hon. Yunusa Oyeleke, advocated for peace, unity, and party supremacy.

In a call to action, the majority of members tasked the six-member committee with reaching out to party leaders across Oyo State and beyond to foster an atmosphere of peace, aiming to restore the APC to government in Oyo State by 2027.

Signed by the Six-Member Committee:

1. Alh. Lawa Basiru (Ogbomosho South)
2. Hon. Habeeb Amunbikan (Ibadan North)
3. Hon. Fakayode Tawakalitu Jumoke (Ona Ara)
4. Hon. Salami Tajudeen (Lagelu)
