EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Council Gaffers Serve Petition on Oyo Attorney General.
Protesting what they described as blatant disobedience to the ruling of the highest court in the land, former officials of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON), in Oyo State has served a petition on Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the State, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo.
A copy of the petition, signed by Bashorun Bosun Ajuwon and tittled,”Complaint of Flagrant Disobedience to The Order of The Apex Court by Honourable Attorney General of Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo”, was served on the Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) earlier this morning.
This newspaper, Africano Trumpeters recalled that few hours after his inauguration as governor in 2019, Engr Makinde sacked the democratically elected chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors, but after series of struggles, Supreme Court of Nigeria overturned his decision and ruled in favour of the erstwhile council helmsmen.
While the court agreed that the tenures of the sacked council chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors have expired, “it ordered that all their outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid with immediate effect”.
The officials, drawn from the 33 Local Government Areas(LGA’s) and 35 Local Council Development Areas(LCDA’s), their vice chairmen and councillors who are judgement creditors alleged that the Oyo state government, their judgement debtors, under the watch of Engr Makinde has not been genuinely committed to the “letter and spirit” of the rulings, and they are demanding for the full implementation of the judicial decisions.
