Federal Government Appoints 10 Individuals To Enforce Supreme Court Judgment
The Federal Government of Nigeria has set up a 10-member Inter-Ministerial Committee to ensure the enforcement of the Supreme Court’s recent judgement granting financial autonomy to local governments in Nigeria, Honourable (Prince) Akeem Adeyemi, Member, House of Representatives (MHR) from Oyo Federal Constituency, hinted.
This committee was inaugurated by Senator George Akume, the secretary, to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on August 20.
The committee is led by the SGF, Senator Akume, and includes the following members:
1. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chairman
2. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy
3. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice
4. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning
5. Accountant General of the Federation
6. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria
7. Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance
8. Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission
9. Representatives of State Governors
10. Representative of Local Governments
The main objective of this committee is to ensure that local governments operate independently and receive the funds they are entitled to, as stipulated by the Constitution.
This move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen local governance and promote grassroots development across the country.
While reacting to the development, Prince Adeyemi lauded Nigeria’s President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”Asiwaju! I always believed you will be the best we will ever have”, he hailed.
