Governance is Bleeding in Oyo State | Morufu Smith.
Education is in shambles in Oyo state and I am shocked that Edmund is mesmerised by GSM’s cosmetic performance in infrastructure only. Edmund that I know is supposed to be a lover of knowledge. Is Edmund proud of the state of education in Oyo state?
Oyo state occupies 33rd in WAEC ratings. 51 secondary schools are delisted by WAEC for engaging in examination malpractices. Education infrastructures have become dilapidated. Classrooms are begging for urgent attention while pupils and students continue to carry their desks and chairs to schools. Gov Makinde has only given running grant to schools once and it is the reason schools have been collecting fees through the backdoor of PTA fees to run schools.
Schools in Oyo State have gone back to the era of writing exam questions on chalkboards while students tear sheets of paper to write answers on. This is happening under PDP administration led by Gov Seyi Makinde. Students are yet to receive result sheets of past examinations conducted for them. Students have once had their results written in sheets of paper! If we allow Gov Makinde to continue in this manner, education in Oyo State will be dead and buried. Oyo people need to stop his knack to deceive them with cosmetic infrastructure and unfruitful investments even as he piles up debts the governor refers to as grants.
Gov Makinde has spent almost four years in government and he has done his best which has only consigned education, environment and security to comatose. This is why APC is pushing forward a better and more experienced public administrator in the person of Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin. It is a revelation that Senator Folarin gathered his public administration experience in the UK where he pursued a meritorious career in public service before he retired and returned to Nigeria to continue his public service sojourn at the highest level in the Nigerian Senate.
As a third time Senator, Oloye Folarin has touched all sectors of governance, especially in the areas of education, health and road infrastructure, in his interventions even without personal budget as a Senator. It is left to be imagined what he will do when he mounts the saddle of governance in Oyo state since he will work with the state budgets in his reach.
Oyo State will fare better if Senator Folarin is elected to steer the ship of the state in the next four years.
