Group Honours Oyetola for Promoting Yoruba Culture.
The Pan- Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural organisation, Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths (SFYY) has presented an award to the Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola as the most outstanding Governor in promotion of culture and tourism.
The National President of SFYY, Comrade Femi Awogboro said the award was bestowed on governor Oyetola in recognition of his efforts at promoting the culture and tradition of the Yoruba ethnic nationality.
Awogboro noted that governor Oyetola has proven himself worthy as a good Ambassador of Yorubaland by promoting and showcasing Yoruba cultural values to the world.
The President told the gathering what informed the formation of SFYY which was to nurture,sustain,and celebrate Yoruba culture and heritage as well as foster love,peace, unity, hope and progress among Yoruba Youths at home and in diaspora.
Awogboro called on the Governors in Southwest to make Yoruba language compulsory in our schools and colleges.
In his response, governor Oyetola who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Adebisi Obawale thanked SFYY for the recognition and promised to continue to use his office to promote Yoruba culture and traditions.
” I appreciate SFYY for the honour and for recognising my immense contributions and selfless services to the Yorubaland and humanity at large”.
Oyetola expressed worry with the way some parents no longer teach their children Yoruba language and called for proper orientation so that the language will not go into extinction.
The Governor said SFYY had played important roles in the society particularly in the area of promoting Yoruba culture. He therefore called on government at all level,traditional institutions and non governmental organisations to accord SFYY proper recognition and rightful place among groups in Yorubaland.
Also speaking, the Guest speaker, a Traditionalist, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon emphasised that, any society that discard its culture and traditions may have its history and traditions going into extinction.
The event tagged ” Yoruba Heritage Day ” was held at the Odudua Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Dignitaries at the event included, Osun State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Bola Oyebamiji, Hon Mulikat Abiola representing Ifelodun at Osun State House of Assembly, Ace Broadcaster, Ajibola Akinyefa, Chairman Board of Trustees, Tinubu Legacy Forum, Alhaji Ganiyu Akeem, traditional rulers, religious leaders, students among others.
The event also featured exhibition of some Yoruba herbal medicines.
