Today marks the 76th posthumous birthday of my leader, political mentor and a quintessential statesman; the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State, whose leadership and governance philosophy continued to shape public discourse in the state.
My Oga; your legacy as the incomparable governor of Oyo State (2011-2019) when you pursued policies focused on urban renewal, infrastructural development, and institutional reforms, guided by your belief that “governance must be about the courage to take difficult decisions in the overall interest of the people.” remain yet unequalled. Your tenure remain renowned for your passion in restoring Ibadan’s urban order and reposition Oyo State as a viable destination for investment.
Your firm stance on discipline and order; is hinged on your mantra that “no society can develop without peace, and peace must be anchored on respect for the rule of law.” How very apt.
The good people of Oyo State cannot forget your impact as their ‘philosopher king’ and sage. Your statement that “leadership is a call to serve, not an opportunity to please.” continues to ring true. Your legacy of purposeful leadership, resilience, and service to humanity endures as a benchmark for present and future leaders.
Continue to rest in peace, Oga. We members of your political family remained committed to carrying on the flag and shinning on the light.
