Hijrah 1443: Oyo Guber Hopeful, Prof Adeolu Akande Greets Muslim Faithful on New Islamic Year.

An Influential Gubernatorial Aspirant, in Oyo-State, on the platform of the All Progressives(APC), Professor Adeolu Akande has felicitated with Muslims on the beginning of new Islamic calendar, Hijrah 1443.

Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC), Professor Akande who in a statement in Ibadan rejoiced with the entire Muslim Ummah in Oyo State on the successful completion of Hijrah 1442 urged them to continue to live in peace with their fellow human beings irrespective of their religious beliefs.

He added that”this was greatly demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when he migrated from Makkah to Madinah”.

According to him, Prophet Muhammad did not wage war against those who were persecuting him in Makkah rather he chose to migrate to Madinah in order to avoid any confrontation with the enemies.

He emphasised that the essence of Hijrah is to live in peace with everyone irrespective of their religious beliefs.

Professor Akande stressed that, “The Prophet of Islam lived peacefully with those he met in ‘Yathrib’, Madinah who were Jews and Christians without discriminating against them”.

“The world will be a better place if only we can imbibe all these teachings as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He commended the Oyo state government for having a rethink by returning Hijrah holiday to Muslims in Oyo State.

“Let me particularly rejoice with the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaj Dawud Makanjuola Akinola, the Chairman of Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaj Ishaq Kunle Sanni and other eminent Muslims on this occasion. I pray Allah give us the opportunity to celebrate many more on earth”, he noted.

The Prophet’s Hijrah was one of the most important events in the history of Islam.

Hijrah, (Arabic: “Migration” or “Emigration”) also spelled Hejira or Hijra, Latin Hegira, the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (622 CE) from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina).

The Islamic Hijrah calendar was established by the second rightly guided Caliph and the Prophet’s close Companion, Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, in 637/638 AD.
