I Care About Roads in Nigeria, But Egbeda/Ona Ara Will Always Be My Priority — Chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi Speaks on Road Construction
The Chairman, House Committee on Works in the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Alabi, who represents Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, has stated that while he is concerned about road construction across Nigeria, he will always prioritise the welfare of his Egbeda/Ona Ara constituents in the discharge of his duties.
Alabi made this known in Ibadan while speaking with journalists. Hon. Alabi explained that the Ibadan–Ife Expressway project has been re-awarded to a new contractor after the federal government observed delays from the initial contractor.

According to him, the section of the road stretching from Alakia to Fasade, which falls under Egbeda Local Government, is in a deplorable condition. This prompted him to meet with the Minister of Works to request that the contractor carry out palliative repairs on that section first, to make it motorable and ease the movement of commuters, pending when the reconstruction will reach the area.

He further revealed that the palliative work would begin in a few weeks, while full concrete road construction has already commenced from the Ilesha end. He noted that the road will be built with concrete this time, instead of regular asphalt, which is expected to last over fifty years without major repairs — an initiative championed by the Minister of Works, Hon. Dave Umahi.
While addressing journalists, Mr. Yuan, the contractor for CPC Construction, assured them that his company is capable of delivering durable roads, citing its proven track record across Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
Hon. Akin Alabi commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for undertaking such massive infrastructure projects. He concluded that the Ibadan–Ife Expressway reconstruction will significantly boost economic activities across the Southwest upon completion and assured the people that work has already commenced.
