IAEA Elects Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Dr Florence Ajimobi as Governor to ‘Board of Governors’
NIGERIA ELECTED TO IAEA BOARD OF GOVERNORS; AMBASSADOR FATIMA FLORENCE AJIMOBI APPOINTED GOVERNOR.
Nigeria has been elected as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026–2028 term, following the election held during the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
Following the election, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Florence Ajimobi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the IAEA, has been appointed as Governor for Nigeria on the IAEA Board of Governors. In this capacity, she will represent the Government of Nigeria at meetings of the Board and its Committees.
Nigeria’s election to the Board provides an important platform for the country to contribute to the governance and policy direction of the IAEA and further reinforces Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, nuclear safety and security, safeguards, and international cooperation for sustainable development.
The development also strengthens Nigeria’s engagement with the IAEA and its efforts to harness nuclear science and technology for national development, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, food security, water-resource management and human-capacity development.
