Ibadan North By-election: You Only Talk to Get Makinde’s Attention for Crumbs – Group Knocks Olopoeyan over Comment Against Adelabu, Murphy

The Progressive Think-Tank, a prominent socio-political group in Oyo State, has condemned Chief Adebisi Olopoeyan for labelling Power Minister, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and Hon. Adewale Olatunji Murphy, the party’s candidate in the upcoming August 16 Ibadan North federal constituency by-election, as “serial losers”.
In a statement, Chairman Akinwale Alaba characterised Olopoeyan’s comments as not only reckless but also revealing of a desperate political nature. He emphasised that such remarks are unbecoming of someone who has never contested an election.
The group urged politicians to exercise restraint in their public statements, particularly regarding fellow party members and respected figures. They noted, “Olopoeyan is not a member of the PDP and has not participated in any party meetings, making him unqualified to speak on behalf of the party.”

Alaba further stated, “If Olopoeyan understood the political landscape, he wouldn’t disparage individuals who have achieved significantly more than he has.” He pointed out that Adelabu’s accomplishments far exceed those of Olopoeyan, asserting that calling him a “serial loser” reflects poorly on Olopoeyan’s judgement.

The group advised Olopoeyan to focus on his own locality in Okiti-Pupa if he wishes to engage in political discourse. They accused him of seeking attention from Governor Seyi Makinde during times of personal need.
“Clearly, Olopoeyan’s comments stem from the recent political climate surrounding the flag-off event. He has never run for office himself and should consider doing so if he believes he is popular,” added Alaba.
Alaba submitted by reminding that even Governor Makinde faced electoral defeats before ultimately winning the governorship of Oyo State and maintained that Murphy’s time has come to represent Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
