Ibadan: Olubadan Installs APC Guber Aspirant, Tegbe As Mogaji of Oguntegbe Compound.
Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Ajeogunguniso-I has installed an illustrious son of Ibadan land and 2019 gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Engineer Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe as Mogaji (Head of the family) of Oguntegbe Compound of Labo area in Ibadan.
The installation has reconfirmed Joseph Tegbe’s Ibadan descendancy .
Olubadan, Oba Adetunji described Tegbe as a “beloved son of Ibadan,” and said that the installation has ended the controversy surrounding Tegbe’s indigineship.
The monarch, while installing Tegbe alongside three other Mogajis on Monday, said, “Tegbe is our beloved son”.
Three other Mogajis who were installed at the Popoyemoja palace of the Olubadan on Monday are Chief Isiaka Adeniyi Ojebode who was installed as Mogaji of Ile-Iwo family in Oja Oba, Chief Sikiru Adekola Olotu who was installed as Mogaji of Adesun/Adabanija and Chief Lukman Adeleke who was installed as Mogaji of Odeku in Bode area of Ibadan.
The policy expert,Tegbe, while speaking noted that the installation has clearly ended the controversy surrounding his indigineship.
He said, “My installation has validated the obvious, that the man who has his origin here in Ibadan is not from Edo or Delta. We are revalidating the obvious about the serious allegations.
“I am very grateful to the Olubadan and the entire Olubadan in council for honouring me; for installing me as Mogaji of Oguntegbe family in Labo Ibadan which further confirmed some of the things we have been doing in Ibadan.
“This is just the beginning of the good things to come to me, my family and enire Ibadan land”, Joseph Tegbe stated .
‘Tegbe is a shortened formed of Oguntegbe. The prefix is ‘Ogun’, god of Iron in Yoruba pantheon while the stem is Tegbe, ‘worthy of praise’, so, the name,Oguntegbe implies ,”god of iron is worthy of praise”.
The advent and adherence of Christianity by Pa Oguntegbe, the biological father of Joseph Tegbe and a foundation member of Ibadan Progressive Union(IPU) made senior Tegbe to drop prefix of the name and went for shortened form ,’Tegbe’.
Africano Trumpeters Newspaper observed that aside becoming a tribal aristocrat of Ibadan land and the Olubadan in the making, politically, this is a major PR victory and counter propaganda tact ever for Joseph Tegbe as a full blooded Ibadan descendant and traditional title- holder.
