Ibadan Poly Makes History As Ojetola Hosts Bursars’ 46th Quarterly Meeting.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan has hosted Bursars Association of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology(BURSCON) 46th Quarterly Meeting of the Association.
The programme runs from 31st October to 2nd November, 2022 at CIBN Hall, beside ICAN Building, Middle Belt, The Polytechnic Ibadan.
The Polytechnic Ibadan’s Bursar, and BURSCON Vice President, Mr Olawale A. Ojetola(FCA) while speaking expressed his joy to host the historical event and hailed tremendous achievements of the association, BURSCON.
In his words,Ojetola said,”I really appreciate our amiable council chairman, Rector, Registrar and others management members, including the bursary staff for their support.
“Indeed, I greatly commend all our amiable BURSCON members for giving me opportunity to host the quarterly meeting and I promise never to let you down. Thank you, Sirs and Mas.
The Chief Host and Rector, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor(Engr) Kazeem Adebiyi in his welcome address saluted all Bursars in attendance and charged them to remain committed to the foundational ethos of their organization.
Brief history of BURSCON.
Burscon was incorporated on 31st October, 2008.
The objectives of BURSCON include:
To provide a way forward on interpersonal relationship among the members(Bursars).
To exchange ideas to enhance the financial administration of our institutions with a view to bring about positive changes in The Polytechnic sub-sector.
To protect the Financial interest of staff, students and the entire community we serve.
To serve as a vehicle for the articulation of due process policy in our various systems.
To present a united voice and action on all matters relating to the members.
To provide enabling favourable environment for exchange of progressive ideas and discussion for the good and progress of our tertiary educational institutions.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan was established in 1970 as a successor to the erstwhile Technical College Ibadan under the provisions of a principal Edict cited as The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Edict 1970. This edict has undergone several amendments in order to make The Polytechnic, Ibadan relevant to the present day needs of Oyo State, the Proprietor in particular and Nigeria in general. Currently, this institution is the
first best state Polytechnic in the country and the fourth best Polytechnic among the 112 Polytechnics in the country as rated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
The primary function of The Polytechnic is to provide for students training and development of techniques in applied science, engineering, environmental science and commerce.
The Polytechnic has been producing majorly middle-level manpower that has been making valuable contributions to the social and economic development of the country. Over the years, The
Polytechnic has also produced high-level manpower in some areas such as urban
and regional planning, mass communication etc. The primary focus of The Polytechnic is training that is practical-oriented. The institution has been performing this function creditably well
for almost fifty years. The graduates of The Polytechnic, Ibadan are found in almost all areas of endeavor all over the country and even outside the country.
Many of them have become Captains of
Commerce and Industries.
By the amendment to the principal Edict of The Polytechnic, Ibadan which came into force on 17 March, 1987, four Satellite campuses of The Polytechnic were created.
