‘Jagun Olubadan’: MHR Hopeful, ‘Socrates’ Congratulates Rep Akin Alabi over Chieftaincy Elevation


 A frontline aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Honourable Monsuru Akintunde Adeyemo (Socrates), has congratulated Oloye Akin Alabi, the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Member representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over his chieftaincy elevation as Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, officially marking his entry into the Ibadan monarchical line.

The announcement was made on Monday, May 19th, 2025, by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at the Olubadan Palace.

The erstwhile Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)/Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Oyo State and former coordinator of the NANS Zone-D (Southwest), Hon. Socrates, praised Alabi’s induction into Ibadan tribal aristocracy and Olubadan regal line, calling it a moment of joy and a good omen for Ibadan kingship. He expressed confidence in Alabi’s capacity to promote and protect values, virtues and interests of the ancient city.

The pioneer Vice Chairman of Aare Latosa Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the State, Adeyemo hailed,
“Royal homage to the esteemed personality, Oloye Akin Alabi! As Your Highness’ coronation takes place today, Friday, May 23rd, 2025, following the customs and traditions of Ibadanland, I dearly congratulate you over your elevation from Mogaji to Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The Ibadan chieftaincy system is one of the most respected traditional structures in Yorubaland, known for its well-defined, stepwise progression through 23 hierarchical stages. The title of Jagun Olubadan is the starting point in this lineage and carries immense historical and cultural weight.

The prolific journalism lecturer and communication professional, Socrates stated,”This is not only a personal achievement for Oloye Akin Alabi but a proud moment for all of us as Ibadan descendants, both at home and in diasporas. Baba Oloye Tuntun has all what it takes to sustain the traditional values, customs and heritage of Ibadanland, the headquarters of Yorubaland and the city of warrior-kings.

“On behalf of myself, family, lovers and supporters at home and in diasporas, once again, congratulations to Jagun Olubadan Tí Óju Ọba Ibòmíràn Lọ. Baba Oloye Akin Omo Alabi. Aku Orire Ooo. Oye Amonri Ooo,” Adeyemo submitted.
