Just In: Lekan Alabi Postpones Planned Birthday Program to Solidarise With Nigerian Youth Agitation for Equitable, Free Nation .
The Veteran Journalist and an High Chief in Ibadan Land, Oloye Lekan Alabi has postponed his planned 70th birthday celebration to solidarise with ongoing agitation of Nigerian Youth demanding for equitable and free Nigeria .
” WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES,ANOTHER IS OPENED
In sympathy with the families and comrades of the killed and injured patriotic Nigerian youths fighting for an equitable and free country,vide the raging #EndSars protests,I,on behalf of my family,issued a press statement,on Tuesday,20th October,this year,wherein we announced the hold on all our long-planned programmes to commemorate my landmark 70th birthday,come Tuesday,27th October,this year.
Among the suspended programmes are Art/Nigerian foods exhibitions,sponsored by Kabiyesi the Ooni of Ife,Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja 11,the launch,to have been chaired by a former Governor of old Oyo State,mathematicianand engineer,Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo, of my biography,authored by the world-renowned political scientist,Professor OBC Nwolise,formerly of the University of Ibadan,dance with an array of stars such as Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi,MFR,King Sunny Ade,MFR,Dr Yinka Ayefele,MON,Queen Salawa Abeni,Abass Obesere,Musiliu Haruna-Ishola,Wole Ojo and two grandaughters of the late Waka Queenmother,Batuli Alake.
The slated “MOTHER OF THE DAY”is the two-time Federal Minister and the Ekerin Iyalode of Ibadanland,Dr(Mrs)Nike Akande,CON,OON,while the designated Chairperson is veteran broadcaster, Chief (Ms)Julie Coker,the Iya Eto of Lagos.The erudite journalist/columnist/author and lawyer,Dr Festus Adedayo,is the biography reviewer. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State,as the Host Governor would have played host to His Excellency’s distinguished colleagues from Ogun,Ondo,Ekiti,Osun and Lagos States as distinguished Guests,with
His Imperial Majesty,the Olubadan of Ibadanland,Kabiyesi Oba Saliu Adetunji,Aje Ogungunniso 1,the designated Host Royal Father of the Day.
My family considered,and still considers,the suspension of the above-named programmes as a sacrifice not too much to make for the fallen young Nigerian patriots and our dear country herself,hence the above idiom.
By God’s grace,we shall soon celebrate,as planned,my well-deserved 70th birthday thanksgiving/celebrations in Ibadan.Amen.
Meanwhile,a new door of celebration is opened.What with the kind invitation to to me to chair the UNITED NATIONS-approved “WORLD DAY FOR AUDIOVISUAL HERITAGE LECTURE”incidentally,holding on my birthday.What a befitting birthday gift!(please,see the details below).
As a journalist/broadcaster of 46 years experience,former Press Secretary to four former Governors(1 civilian and 3 military) of old Oyo State(1983 to 1989,and four-time acting Managing Director of the SKETCH PRESS LIMITED,IBADAN,among others,every true professional would wish for a comforting compensation,as it were,for a family-approved sacrifice to his/her country.
Again,our sincere apologies to all our invited guests,musicians,service providers,the media etc,for the hold on my 70th birthday celebrations.
No honour is too high in memory of these patriots.
