Just In: Oyo NIS Elects New Leaders.
Nigerian Institution of Surveyors(NIS), Oyo state chapter has elected new leaders, during the “Institution’s 2021 Election”, which took place, on Monday, at Oyo NIS Secretariat, Fadiya Oyeniyi Street, off Federal Secretariat/Custom Road, Ikolaba, in Ibadan, the Capital of Oyo-state.
According to ‘2021 Election Result Sheet’ made available to Africano Trumpeters Newspaper by the Chairman, Electoral Committee , Surveyor Olatunde Ebenezer Fagbamigbe, fnis,mni, Surv Lamidi Waheed emerged as the Chairman- elect of the Institution with total votes of 105 while his close rival Surv Akangbe Omobolaji got total votes of 73.
Other executives – elect are Salawu Tunde who emerged as vice chairman, Adefabi Dasola as secretary, Oladipo Adenike as assistant secretary, Adefabi Fatai as financial secretary, Alao Kehinde as council representative, Akinola Adetunji as treasurer, Ajayi Sanya as auditor, and Babatunde Rasheed, who emerged as publicity/social secretary.
The above stated names emerged as executives – elect after the election of Oyo NIS, as respectively affirmed by the two observers, Surv(Barr) Osaretin Ogbabor and Surv Adigun Robert. And, also, officially endorsed by the Chairman, Electoral Committee, Surv Olatunde Ebenezer Fagbamigbe,fnis,mni.
In his short address, the outgoing Chairman of the Institution, Surv (Prince) Aderemi Femi Kobiowu,fnis, maintained that the;“‘Oyo NIS’ under his watch has tremendously experienced repositioning and advancement of the cause of her members. Prince Kobiowu congratulated the executives – elect and charged them to work in unity and consolidate on the landmark achievements of the outgoing executives.
In his “victory speech”, the Chairman – elect, Surv Lamidi Waheed, on behalf of the executives – elect, thanked all their supporters and the entire members of the Institution, who massively voted for them and gave them the mandate to paddle the canoe of the Institution for the next dispensation. “No Victor, No Vanquished. We are all winners. Firstly, on behalf of myself and entire executives – elect, I thank all our supporters and the entire members of this great Institution, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors(NIS),Oyo state branch, who massively voted for us and gave us mandate to paddle the canoe of this reputable Institution for the next dispensation. Thank you all and by His Grace, we will never let you down, on our respective electoral promises.
Surv Lamidi also lauded numerous achievements recorded by the outgoing executives led by Surv. Aderemi Femi Kobiowu(fnis) and he maintained that the executives elect under his helmsmanship will definitely build on the strong foundation that `the outgoing leadership of the Institution has already laid.
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is perhaps one of the oldest organized bodies in Nigeria. It started in 1934 as the “Licensed Surveyors Association” under the able leadership of the late Nationalist, Herbert Heelas Macaulay.
In 1960, the name was changed to the “Land Surveyors Association of Nigeria” with late Surv. C. T. Olumide as chairman.
The current name – “The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors” was adopted at the Enugu conference in 1966 with the late Surv. C. T. Olumide elected as its first President. The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is the umbrella professional organisation for all Surveyors in Nigeria, whether in private practice, government or academia.
The Institution has its set goals and objectives clearly defined to its members.
Activities include branch meetings, conferences and events.
