Learning from Past Mistakes for A Stronger Future in APC Oyo State | By Hon. Kazeem Alimi
Fellow members of the APC in Oyo State,
In light of recent events at the OYSIEC Kangaroo, the most the most shameful and worst-ever local government election in the history of Oyo State, it is imperative that we reflect on our actions and decisions leading up to this point. Politics, as we know, is about loyalty and dedication to our party and its candidates.
However, it is equally important to uphold the principles of internal democracy and fairness.
The events of yesterday, deemed by many as shameful and the worst in the history of Oyo State, serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of anti-party activities by so many of our members and leaders.
The handwriting on the wall, as evident in the results and actions of the PDP in yesterday’s LG elections, reflects the repercussions of actions taken during the March 18th, 2023, gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections, where we supported the worst candidates of the ruling party in the state despite the moral and financial commitments of all our candidates, where we forgot that “it is better to be a friend to a reigning king than allow your enemy to be on the throne.”.
There was no reward for anti-party activities other than what we all faced yesterday.
We cannot deny that no sitting governor would willingly allow the opposition to gain control at the local government level.
However, our actions and inactions on March 18, 2023, are what we all saw yesterday. If you are digging a hole for your enemies, try not to make it deep, because your friend may be the one to fall inside it.
Anti-party behaviour undermines the democratic process and erodes the trust of loyal party members and the electorate.
As members of the APC, we must learn from our past mistakes. We have witnessed the detrimental effects of anti-party actions in both the 2019 and 2023 elections. Let us not allow history to repeat itself in 2027.
It is time to prioritise the greater good of our party and the people of Oyo State over personal agendas. We must stand united in support of our party’s candidates at all levels. Internal discord only weakens us as a collective force.
We acknowledge that our actions in the past have contributed to our current challenges. It is incumbent upon us to take responsibility and commit ourselves to a path of unity and integrity.
Let us heed the lessons of the past and work tirelessly towards a brighter future for the APC Oyo State. Together, we can overcome obstacles and emerge stronger than ever before.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to the betterment of our party and our state.
Sincerely,
Hon. Kazeem A. Alimi
Ibadan, North LG, Oyo State.
